The Moment Before

The pendulum is motionless in the instant preceding movement. On the surface below there is no trace of what has already occurred, but the configuration of what may happen. The sand does not record a path, but a field of possibilities: a shifting topography composed of different intensities, like a map of the possible.

As in the wave function ψ introduced by Erwin Schrödinger and interpreted probabilistically by Max Born, the system does not describe a single trajectory, but a structured set of possible trajectories. Movement has not yet begun, yet it is already distributed throughout space.

The work does not show what has happened, but what is about to happen: not becoming itself, but its initial condition.
