Rien n'est Rien

2024

Two large metal brackets make a void visible. The work, Rien n'est rien, emerged within a cycle of interviews on the theme of the void and quantum physics, part of an ongoing book project, and refers to a dialogue with Gian Francesco Giudice.

The reference is to the empty set in mathematics: empty curly brackets indicate a set without elements, yet precisely because they delimit a space, they are never an absolute void. Even in its most abstract form, nothingness cannot be conceived without a container. The same occurs in physics: the vacuum is never completely empty, but filled with fluctuations and virtual particles.

The work reveals this contradiction: what we call "nothing" always already contains something.
